My first encounter of pan-fried baos in Taipei was when I was at Shilin District. I was overly excited as I randomly stumbled into this bao stand on the street. I don't speak a lick of Mandarin (except for the simple - "thank you," "hello" and "how much?"), so I busted out my charades skills. For 12NT ($0.37), I had a choice of pork, leek, and vegetable.. I chose all three and the seller placed it in a clear plastic where I filled it with their sauces (a spicy + sweet/salty black sauce). It was so fresh and delicious! I had to return for seconds, but by that time he ran out of the pork baos =(. 

This is everywhere in Taiwan.
