Best Banh Mi in Saigon

I love anything that starts with "Banh" also known as bread. I was on the hunt for a good banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) as soon as I got to Vietnam. Bánh Mì Huỳnh Hoa is in an alley a couple blocks away from Ben Thanh market. As I approached the sandwich shop, I saw locals already leaving with bags full of sandwiches. The workers are rapidly executing each order that's coming through. With the stacks of meat laid out, I couldn't help but order two sandwiches for myself (33,000VND / $1.50 each). The BBQ and Combination with extra pate banh mi were so delicious.

To start off, the bread is flaky and crunchy on the outside, but soft inside. As I bit into the sandwich, bread crumbs would just fall off on my lap. The meat has so much flavor and the greens are as fresh as they get. I love the pickled daikons and carrots. It definitely cooled off my mouth after eating that spicy pepper in it. I ate -- devoured that banh mi to the point that I scraped the roof of my mouth. Altogether, it is a great combination that balances every part of the sandwich.  The layers of flavors will leave you wanting for more.
